I try to see the matter in two perspectives;
If I get an opportunity to build the whole team as brand new from the beginning then it OK with me. nothing to say on this.
But if join as a boss of an old team... then... after joining as a boss and old subordinates...are thinking him as their threat. According to our custom on Bangladesh, many seniors prefer to move with their whole old team members. So, their fear is normal.
Normally I used to encourage everyone to use their best skills in his/her one job role. I think I have to achieve their confidence & Trust is the first thing to do. If there is something new in this way, then build ties within the Team.
I believe that by following this path 'a group of people' turned in 'a Team'. And of course by encouraging every member of the group to be motivated to achieve a collective goal, by sharpening their skills, evaluating their contribution, etc.
It is nothing but Team Building in my followed way.
