(38.22) Illegal connection electrocuted children, killed journalists to not reveal the news
A child, Tamim, (3), was killed on Saturday (May 26th) in connection with the illegal connection of electricity in Banagram in Kayempur Union of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj. Abul Hossain Thandu, a local Awami League leader, is influencing the matter to cover the issue. He threatened journalists and said that if he is notified about the issue, his extortion will be framed in the case.
During this time, local journalist Mosharraf Hossain Masud of Daily Azaler lingered in a filthy language and went to slap his face. To prevent the people, journalist Masud escaped from the beat of his hand.
Locals said that Dulali Begum, wife of Azadul of Banagram Uttarpara of Kamaypur Union under the upazila, went to the house of Mamma Amanat Sardar in the same village with her son, son Tamim (3) on Saturday morning. Child Tamim was killed on the spot due to an illegal power connection line left by Auto Van-rickshaw in the yard of the house. Then the child Tamim was taken to Shahjadpur Shishu Hospital and the duty doctor declared him dead.
Locals further said that Amanat Sardar and his son Jahangir have been providing two auto van-rickshaw charges in their home yard overnight for illegally getting electricity from the nearby Aziz Sardar's house. If the charge is given early on in the morning, then the father-son came out to work. The illegal electricity connection line of Van Charge remains in the yard. The child Tamim died on the spot due to electrocution while playing with the charging socket from the illegal power supply line left in the yard.
At noon this afternoon, at Aziz Sardar's house in Bangram, it is seen that there is a power socket bar with illegal electric power lines to charge auto van-rickshaw with a venture in his home yard. Along with others in the house, people around the house said that Aziz Sardar has been having electricity business for more than 10/12 homes in this way with illegal electricity connection. The child Tamim was killed due to his illegal electricity business. In this regard, they demand punishment for the culprits.
Shahjadpur Rural Power Supply and DGM Golam Mustafa said that he had been informed about the matter. He said that legal action will be taken against the accused immediately. Shahjadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khwaja Golam Kibria said strict action will be taken against the culprits in connection with the investigation.
Meanwhile, a local Awami League leader, Abul Hossain Thundu, along with some of the leaders of the area, has begun to rig the massacre, they are trying to bury the dead body promptly. On the other hand, he threatened journalists and said that if he is reported on this issue, he will be framed in the extortion case.
Extreme anger and tension prevailed among local journalists in this incident. They immediately demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused Awami League leader Abul Hossain Chandru.
