We don't yet know if this is an anti-Muslim hate crime. But there's a good chance it was. There have been a number of such incidents since Oct. 7, the most egregious being the case of the 6 year old Palestinian-American boy killed by his landlord.
The people who do such things are no better than the Hamas terrorists they claim to oppose.
Destroying Hamas is justified, even at the cost of some collateral damage to civilians. Deliberately targeting civilians - particularly ones living thousands of miles away with no connection to the conflict, other than their being Arabs and/or Muslims - is just terrorism, much like that of Hamas.
It is also true that FBI data shows a higher incidence of anti-Semitic hate crimes than anti-Muslim ones, even after controlling for the relative size of the two groups. That, too, in no way justifies anti-Muslim or anti-Arab violence.
