READ: Matthew 9:9-13
Key Scripture: As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. (Matthew 9:9).
THOUGHTS
Matthew was sitting at the tax office. In the entire New Testament, you will get the impression that the tax office was looked down upon by the general populace. Even the Pharisees queried why Jesus should be eating with tax collectors and sinners in Mark 2:15-16. So, Matthew was a tax collector who was sitting at the tax office at the time Jesus came. He wasn’t standing, but sitting. Sitting is a posture of comfort. He was comfortable in a despicable business. I was so touched that Jesus called him, knowing where he was and whom he was. Matthew didn’t delay his response; he responded immediately and followed the Lord. He followed Him not only for that day but for the rest of his life. Jesus is calling you. It does not matter where you are (what sin you are committing), who you are (the impression people have about you). God sees you and He calls you to follow Him for the rest of your life.
