Migrant Caravan Reaches Mexico City
The migrant caravan has now reached Mexico City. At the very least there are about 2,000 Central American migrants who have now arrived in Mexico City. Many have gone to Jesus Martinez Stadium where they are currently receiving humanitarian aid.
At the moment they are still hundreds of miles from the United States border. President Trump has dispatched US troops to help strengthen the border. They have been erecting barriers and laying barbed wire.
There are still several thousand more migrants currently en route to Mexico City. They are expected to arrive in the coming days. The migrant caravan was offered temporary work permits in Mexico if they stay in either Southern Chiapas or Oaxaca. This scheme has been devised by current Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto.
It remains to be seen how much of the caravan will actually arrive in the United States, where they plan to apply for asylum.
