What could be done to improve STEEMIT ecosystem?

The first impression of steemit when one logs in to the steemit account is that we see a bunch of posts on a variety of topics in several different languages which makes the screen look cluttered. There are few improvements that can be made to have a better first impression for newbies. While signing up, there could be a window that would allow users to select interested topics that they would like to see posts on and preferred language on which they see posts.
