Description

If something is "inane" it is silly or stupid. According to Thomas and Ruth Roy, who created Inane Answering Message Day, the day takes place each year so that people can listen to what they have as their recorded greeting for their voicemail and home answering machines, and replace any that are "ridiculous" and "annoying," that "waste the time of anyone who must listen to them." Other holiday sites have taken the liberty to say that the day may also be for stopping the reception of inane messages—although the messages may be difficult to prevent—or for doing the exact opposite of the days' original intent: changing greeting messages so that they are inane.

National Inane Answering Message Day is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on January 30th.

How to observe

The best way to celebrate the day is to follow the creators' original intent. Listen to your recorded greeting messages and change and replace them if they are silly or stupid. It probably would be best to simply have your greeting state who you are, so a caller knows they have called the correct number. Whatever you do, stay away from changing your greeting to another inane message.
