TREE GROWTH AND INCREMENT TYPES

Tree growth:means elongation and thickening of roots,stem and branches.
Increase in diameter and crown means increase in volume or biomass.

Increment: increase in girth, diameter,basal area, height, volume, quality, price or value of trees.

CAI(current annual income): increment which a tree or crop puts on in a single year. CAI varies from year to year being affected by seasonal conditions and treatment.

MAI(mean annual income):mean volume of a tree or crop put on from origin up to the desired age that is the total increment up to a given age divided by that age .

PAI(periodic annual Income):is a more realistic indicator of the capacity of a tree or stand of a certain age or size to grow. It is average annual increment for any short period.
