As I reflect on the deeper meaning of Independence day, I recognize not only what a painful history we have led and lived, but the implications of it in a new light. Psychological, emotional, and spiritual independence is just as important and sacred as the idea of a democracy by and for the people.
The horrors of manifest destiny aside, as any sort of exploitative nature is subconsciously one of rape, we must decide how sovereignty and sacredness affects us all.
As individuals and a collective human family, we all have a right to independence, a right to liberty and freedom.
And so, let us all together celebrate the never ending fireworks of our own souls, the flames of the fire that is the human will to do good, to reap and sow a different type of manifest destiny...a destiny manifested as peace, democracy, a type of grassroot divinity, a bridging of the deepest divides, an honoring of the otherness, a willingness to be incorrect.
May every day be a celebration of redemption, a celebration of humanity's independence from its own darkness.
So may your own fire-cracker soul light up and explode through the darkest of voids.
For only with a supernova spirit can one go forth.
Be not the infernal eternal dud, the doused in apathy rotting torch of despair, but the lantern of a thousand suns, an undying source of all things great and powerful in this world.
