Do we deserve a better India?

Many a times, I have wondered why India is still a developing nation. Although the British left India in a very devastated state, India had enough resources to grow in to a developed nation.Well, in our self-centered lives, the need of this vision is utmost necessary specially among the youth of today.

When I was thinking about the development of India, I could easily brain-storm over twenty different reasons why India is still lagging behind when it comes to the overall development of the nation. I kept thinking... I thought that if I can think of this many reasons for the development of India, there is no lack of thought in our country but the problem lies in the execution part of it.

As I kept thinking, I realized that I haven't done anything significant for the development of India. Better question would be that am I worthy enough to speak about development. As I kept pondering over my thoughts I realized that if you ask the public who is responsible for India not being a developed nation, they would start the blame game. They will blame the politicians, leaders, the British maybe even Pakistan. None of us would agree that we ourselves are the reason for India not being developed.

One example that can prove the drastic narrow minded and self-centered nature of Indians in general is the incident of the Tejas Express. This was one of the best projects of the Indian Railway and undoubtedly was designed to facilitate world class amenities to the Indian travelers.I realized that the people who indulge in litter and indulge in vandalism are the ones who claim to be among the elite class

The Tejas Express was affordable to people who are are upper middle class or above as the ticket fare costed around 2000 rupees from Mumbai to Goa.To everyone's surprise, the Tejas Express had gone through extreme graffiti and spoilage. After the first few rides, it was running with fewer headphones, broken window panes and even ill maintained toilets.Imagine that if the educated people is doing this, the condition of the other people need not be mentioned.

So, the bigger question remains, Do we deserve these if we cannot maintain it? The hard truth is that we are taught to misuse the government and narrow mindedness is held responsible for it. None of us is willing to pay taxes. We apply for all sorts of tax returns and try to evade tax to the maximum. We misuse every scheme from the government for our own benefit. We are taught to amass enough and more wealth not only for us but for the generations to come. We are not taught to give others and help the people in need.

Change doesn't happen if the people of India are not going to change. How can we expect the politicians who are equally indian to not think of themselves and not be corrupt. To bring a change in India, we ourselves need to change.Lets change for a better India.
