ISRO Opens Doors To Watching Rocket Launches In India!

in india •  6 years ago

If you had a dream of watching a space rocket launch in India at a close range you can now do it officially. Until now people would try and get as close as possible but yet find themselves watching it from some bridge or a building somewhat far away.

ISRO has now built a viewing gallery in the form of a stadium that can today accommodate 5000 people and eventually they will be able to accommodate a higher number of around 10,000. The gallery faces the two launch pads giving it a clear line-of-sight.

According to a tweet from it's official handle:

Phase-1 of visitors' gallery, with 5000 capacity, will go live at SDSC in Sriharikota on March 31. It has a clear line of sight to 2 launch pads. Large screens placed to explain launcher\satellite features.

I always wanted to watch a rocket launch in my life and now that it's easily doable I'm going to plan for the next one if possible. If you are wondering how to signup to be amongst those who get a chance to see it from the viewing gallery then fret not, it's quite easy.

Whenever a launch is scheduled you can visit https://www.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp and register yourself using a valid Indian government issued ID. You can use Aadhar also. Be sure to carry the same ID with you to the venue.

The venue is accessible to Indian citizens only and children above the age of 10. People who have registered online will be granted access. You can fill up the documents online, upon which you will receive an entry pass which you have to then download, print and carry with you to show to the security at the venue.

There are also toilets and washrooms built at the venue which is part of a theme park being built to promote interest in this area amongst the general public. It will also encourage people to get involved and push youngsters to join the Indian space sector.

According to DQIndia: The website displays a link available to register to witness the upcoming PSLV-C45 EMISAT launch live on 1st April 2019 at 9:30 AM. Those interested need to only provide a government recognized photo ID and the number of people wishing to witness the facility.

The nearest railway station is Sullurpeta, which is 18 Km away from Sriharikota, and limited public or private transport is available from Sullurpeta to Sriharikota.

There is a little more info on the Space themed park (Rocket garden, Viewing gallery and Space museum on the registration link here

This is a quite remarkable step taken by ISRO. We have a chance to see the things very closely which were hitherto visible only through television. Thank you dear @firepower for this great information.
