Hola Steemians! Today, I wish you all a very happy Vijayadashami.
Vijayadashami (Dussehra) is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. It is celebrated differently and for different reasons in different parts of India. But the victory of good over evil remains a common reason in every celebration.
For eastern and northeastern Indians, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja. Goddess Durga is remembered for defeating Buffalo demon to restore dharma.
In northern, southern and western parts of India, Vijayadashami is synonymously called Dussehra and marks the end of Ramlila. Dussehra is believed to be the day on which Lord Rama killed demon Ravana.
Vijayadashami's celebration includes the processions to a river or ocean front to immerse the clay statues of goddess Durga, Laxmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartikeya. The processions are often accompanied by chants and music. Burning of towering effigies of Ravana (symbol of evil) with fire works is also observed.
After 20 days, Diwali the biggest and most celebrated Hindu festival is observed.
