अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी यांनी १६ ऑगस्ट रोजी अखेरचा श्वास घेतला किडनीला झालेल्या संसर्गामुळे ११ जून रोजी वाजयेपी यांना 'एम्स'मध्ये दाखल करण्यात आले होते. यापूर्वी २००९ मध्ये वाजपेयी यांना हृदयविकाराचा झटका आला होता. त्यानंतर त्यांना स्मृतीभ्रंश झाला होता. अटलबिहारी वाजपेयी यांना भारतातील अत्यंत चतुर राजनीतिज्ञांपैकी मानले जात होते. राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघाचे प्रचारक म्हणून काम केलेल्या वाजपेयी यांची प्रतिमा सौम्य मध्यममार्गी अशीच कायम राहिली.
वाजपेयी यांचे बालपण, कुटुंब, लहानपणापासून संघाशी एकरूपता, अभिजात वाङ्‌मय व काव्याची आवड, काही काळ डाव्या विचार चळवळींचा त्यांच्यावर पडलेला प्रभाव, वाजपेयी यांचे महाविद्यालयीन जीवन व राजकारणातील प्रवेश, 1955 पासून संसदेतील त्यांचा वावर, त्यांची प्रभावी भाषणे, नेहरू व वाजपेयी, वाजपेयी-मधोक, वाजपेयी- इंदिरा गांधी यांचे संबंध, 1973 ते 1977 मधील खळबळजनक वर्षे, आणीबाणी, त्यानंतरचे भारतीय राजकारणातील वाजपेयी यांचे नेतृत्व, त्यांचे वक्‍तृत्व, सर्वांना बरोबर घेऊन जाण्याची विचारसरणी, भाजपच्या सत्तेच्या काळातील घटना या सर्वांच्या स्मरणात राहणाऱ्या आहेत. त्यांच्या निधनाने भारताचे अपरिमित नुकसान झाले आहे, ते कधीच भरून ना येणारे नुकसान आहे, भारताला असा नेता पुन्हा मिळणं शक्य नाही
