Matunga station enters Limca Book of Records for having India’s First Railway Station With All-Women Staff.

Matunga is a railway station on the Central line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network. Which is an educational hub, is situated between Dadar and Sion and lots of passengers use the station, including several railway employees from the neighboring railway workshop.

The achievement comes six months after Matunga became the first railway station in the country to be run by an all- woman staff, has now entered the Limca Book of Records 2018. At present, a total of 41 women staffers, among them 17 booking clerks, 6 RPF (Railway Protection Force) personnel, 8 ticket checkers, 5 point persons, 2 railway announcers and 2 cleaning staffers are working at Matunga under the administration of station manager Mamta Kulkarni. Incidentally, Kulkarni also holds the credit of becoming the first woman Station Master in Mumbai section when she joined Central Railway in 1992.

"We are happy to inform that six months after the CR appointed an all-woman staff at Matunga, this station has figured in the Limca Book of Records 2018, The credit for this goes to CR General Manager D K Sharma, who started this initiative of empowering women. The staff has been handling all operations of the station round-the-clock for the last six months and results are positive and encouraging. The idea is to create an environment where women are encouraged to take decision about their own personal and professional well-being" said the Railway official.
