Mughal-E-Azam or The Great Mughal, can be counted among those few Indian films, that has its ardent fans and followers spanned across every Indian generation, starting from 1960, on which the film was first released.

It tells the story of the romantic development between Prince Salim, the son of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, and a court dancer Anarkali [pronounced as: aaa--nar(as in nary)--kalee], which means pomegranate blossom.

Their love though pure, faces rejection due to their vast difference in social status. However, the young prince decides to break the norms and make Anarkali his princess.

But unfortunately, the emperor soon comes to know of their relationship through another court dancer Bahar(means: like the spring season), who also loves the prince and is jealous of his relationship with Anarkali.

The angry emperor forbids Salim from having anything to do with Anarkali again. However Salim refuses to comply, and rebels; resulting in a war between father and son.

To sum up. It is a wonderful film, with mesmerizing graphics for its times, and a story-line that is bound to make you go though a bumpy ride of joy and sorrow, and of hope and despair.
