Can a restaurant charge you for the food you had?

Well, it completely depends on who you are serving. Being a eatery owner back here in India is not easy. One has to be extremely vigilant while serving food to customers. It is important that you read their minds before serving them a cheque for the food.

A restaurant owner, in Bengal, who didn't know the art of mind reading had to pay for his incapability with his life. Yes, he served his customer a plate full of 'biryani' and when they were full and refused to have anything more, he promptly served them a cheque for 190 INR.

If it was any other good customer, they would have paid the money and left, but these were a group of 4 roughs. These men didn't like it that the eatery owner charged them for the food they ate. The roughs felt they were doing good to the restaurant owner by eating at his place. Soon an argument broke which ended in one of the men from the group shooting at the restaurant owner point blank with his Desi revolver. The men fled from the spot, but the police were successful in getting the one who actually used the revolver. Other 3 are still on the run.

I guess the roughs didn't know that food at eateries are not for free.
