The ALL India War Memorial !

As we all are aware of the massive amount of destruction in the World War - I and the number of soldiers that died was enormous. During the the WWI period India was under British colonial rule and the government also sent a very big amount of British-Indian troops for the war because which a big section of the British Indian army lost their lives.

In the year of 1921 a structure namely All India War Memorial ( commonly reffered to as India Gate ) designed by Edwin Lutyens was built to commemorate the efforts of all those brave soldiers who lost their lives during the World War I era.

The most remarkable thing about India gate is that, names of more than 13000 servicemen including some soldiers and officers from the United Kingdom, are inscribed on the gate.

Another fascinating feature was introduced in the year of 1972 because of the Bangladesh Liberation War, a simple structure was built under the massive arch which is consisting a black marble plinth, with a reversed rifle (SLR) , capped by a war helmet, bounded by four eternal flames.

It was named as the Amar Jawan Jyoti which means Flame of the Immortal Soldier

Every Republic day, the Prime Minister of India visits this place in order to pay their tributes to the Amar Jawan Jyoti. After that the Republic day parade starts.

Today the India Gate stands high with a reason to feel proud for being a Indian and paying tributes to the braves for whom we are living freely in the present day !
