THE FORT In RED

A lot of years back when hefty kings sat on their massive thrones surrounded with big armies, they built a ton of structures and memorable monuments, one of the common interest between many kings was to raise epic forts to keep an eye over long distances and at the same time keeping them safe and sound with owning certain advantages over their enemies.

One such marvel was built by the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty to have a safe, luxurious and a hard to invade residence. It was built by red sandstone through a period which exceeds 8 long years ! It also served to be the ceremonial and political center of the Mughal state and the setting for events critically impacting the region.

The entire complex is a piece of beauty and creativity by the Mughal architect Ustad Ahmad Lahorias as it displays a fusion of Persian, Timurid and Hindu traditions all at one place. The fort was very well decorated by numerous jewels and incredible artworks, but the majority of the precious marbles were destroyed by the British following the Revolt of 1857.

Today at every Independence Day of India ( 15 Aug ) the Prime Minister hoists the Indian tri-color flag at the main gate of the fort and delivers a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts.

The monument was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year of 2007.

Every year the Red Fort receives a footfall in thousands, a light and sound show is also organized which depicts the Mughal cultures and certain historic events.
