Welcoming Spring with "Flame of Forest" - Palash Flower

in india •  6 years ago

A morning walk along the local Jungle, make me fall in awe with the beautiful flower of Palash

image

Also known as Bueta Monosperma or Bastard Teak these are speciality of eastern India and Western Bengal.

image

The tree is unique and of short height. I found one along the roadside of our local Jungle. It totally covered with Orange Red flowers. And there are no leafes.

image

Generally seen during the onset of Spring. When the entire jungle is covered with such tree , the Orange Red color gives a majestic look as the Jungle is set on Fire. Therefore, palash is also called as “flame of the forest"*.

image

Other important aspect is its black buds i.e the flowers originated from a black buds and the combination of black bottom and orange petals give a totally awesome and beautiful attractive look.

image

The fallen Petals on the ground also make the space quite beautiful as bed of Palash and the soil part is completelly turned into Orange Red coloured soil.

image

More importantly , the local people used to make natural colour out of these flower. These Color is further used to play Holi - The Festival of Color

People collects, the flowers and then soaked overnight a day before Holi to get a rich yellow color. This color was used for playing Holi. It is natural, organic and good for skin.

image

I googled further to find out other benefits and found it has some special mention in Ayurveda and Unani medicine. Here is some of the medicinal usage of Bueta Monosperma

Palash is a medicinal Indian herb and is used as an external as well as an internal remedy for the management of various ailments.

Palash bark is applied externally to treat wounds and cuts.

Palash seeds have a compound known as palaosin and often used to treat worm infestation. The seeds are also laxative in nature.

The gum can be used to treat dysentery and diarrhoea.
Dried flowers are used as colour and in bathing to cure skin rashes and infection in summers. The flowers are rich in Sulphur, which makes them perfect treatment for skin ailments. The flowers purify and cleanse the bloodstream of free radicals.

The paste of flowers is also applied externally to cure joint pains, swelling, sprains, injury and arthritis.

The bark of the tree also has blood purifying properties.

The concoction made by flowers is beneficial in impotency and menstrual cramps.

Fruits and seeds of the plant are used to treat skin ulcers, piles and disorders related to eyes such as cataract.
Roots of a palash tree is used as an analgesic. They are also used to cure night blindness.

Hello from Thailand - funnily enough I saw one of these trees yesterday high up in the mountains along the Thai-Burma border - also brilliantly in flower. So nice to learn more about it - I was driving and the rough road had no where to stop, so I was unable to snap a pic for identification. You should think about using the @naturalmedicine banner under your post :) Look fwd to you sharing more of your magnificent ayurvedic images and heritage. :)

That's great. @artemoslives...so I help you find more about it...😊..hope now you won't be feeling bad for not taking the pic..👍....I am already in natural medicine discord but lately not so active with any NM related Post. But definately whenever get chance I always contribute to the NM.

Best thing according to those flowers is it not get any damage until Three days after we pick up them from Trees.

It will be fresh up to four to Five days also.

This is no doubting the uniqueness of this tree. Its small stature sets it apart from the rest of the landscape easily. It is also a very colored one-ness standing there.

I cannot help but compare it to one of the trees called a magnolia, with the flowers bright pink (one of the colors) and no greenery shows up until the flowers have disappeared.

Lovely images! Thank you for showing them off in a most delightful manner!

!tip

Thanks Denise, might you get the perfect substitute in Manglia. Infact these flower vanishes in a month time and new leafes will comes out to cover it....but the one month of pure Orange Red looks gives a pleasant view all around.

Posted using Partiko Android

They surely are incredibly beautiful! Magnolias also disappear and then green leaves appear!

How coincidental!

Wow, beautiful to look at and so useful, too! I can see why they would be so good for natural dyes as that color is just stunning. Always so neat to read about the myriad of holistic ways to use plants for health, too.

Thanks @plantstoplanks good to get such review which makes me share more interesting thing on Steem...these are really unique and can be seen only for a months...would definately share how these looks after a month when it get full of leafes

Posted using Partiko Android

That is a really unique looking tree! The flowers are quite beautiful and they really do resemble little flames! Very neat. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks @derekrishardson there are many such trees in nearby jungle. And crossing those area via train do give a amazing look. ...all in Orange Red. ..though these are usually for one month after that it get full with leafes..and no flower...

That tree is a one of a kind! Beautiful in color and everything about it makes it one to respect. So much that this earth gives us for healing. This is the best way to help ourselves. The smell of the flowers must be so beautiful as well?

That is strange part @foxyspirit it does not have any Smell....but look wise it is the prettiest. ...yesterday I was travelling by a local train which passes through dense jungle...and I saw the " flower of Flame" there were many trees with full off these flower. I tried to take picture but the train speed was not allowing me to take a good shot....but it was an amazing look

Posted using Partiko Android

Thats actually pretty cool that something so pretty doesn't have a smell.

What a sight that would be to see. You are lucky to have seen it.
