Today is 2nd October,the day when our "Father of the Nation" i.e Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born. This day is observed as National Holiday here in India.This day is also observed as "International Day of Non-Violence" every year,as Gandhiji always followed the path of Non-Violence to grant freedom for India over the Britishers.
So today the nation remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his 148th birth paying homage to Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was fondly called Bapu.
"Mahatma" which translates to "Great soul" was attached to his name as an honor.He was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. Mahatma Gandhi had his early political training in South Africa while working among the local Indian community facing discrimination.Later he came to India to give India its freedom from British.
October 2 is also the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second prime minister of the country. He had given the famous slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer).
He was a political and spiritual leader in India and played a key role in the Indian independence movement. Gandhi developed the novel technique of non-violent agitation, which he called "Satyagraha".
