Ram Nat Kovind is the new Indian president after the votes of parliamentarians at national And the various states.
The center-right government coalition candidate (Nda), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bjp party, received 66% of votes against 34% of his rival Meira Kumar, nominated by opposition formations, including Congress of Sonia Gandhi.
Kovind replaces the outgoing Pranaba Mukherjee, whose mandate expires on 25 July.
For the first time in Indian history both candidates were exponents of the Dalit , the grouping that is at the basis of the complex Indian pyramid Of the caste.
Kovind will be the second Dalit to become president after K.R. Narayanan (1997-2002).
