Today's Weed News for August 8th 2018 #INDIANA

For today's weed news we go to the great state of Indiana.

Now that 31 out of the 50 United States have some kind of medical marijuana laws on the books, some lawmakers in Indiana are beginning to get the hint that cannabis, especially medical, is something people want and need, and should be allowed to have.

One of those lawmakers, Republican State Representative Jim Lucas, who would like to see medical marijuana come to Indiana ASAP, recently traveled to Colorado to learn a thing or two about the legal cannabis industry.

"It was incredible... seeing the freedom and the acceptance of how they deal with cannabis on a day-to-day basis. That was probably the biggest culture shock for me" said Lucas upon his return.

While in Colorado, the representative toured dispensaries and cultivation facilities in Pueblo, Colorado Springs as well as Denver.

He was very impressed with the "from seed to sell" RFID tracking system implemented in Colorado and even said that he would like to see a similar system of tracking cannabis plants implemented in his state.

Having learned a lot during his Colorado visit, representative Lucas is now working on some cannabis bills that he wants to have ready to introduce before the 2019 legislative session.

"I want to make it easy for patients to have access to cannabis. That's the main thing. We have to keep it affordable... I want to keep it simple, keep it market-based and easily regulated, but not over-regulated" said Lucas.

Those are some very good and clearly defined goals in my humble opinion. Unfortunately not everybody in Indiana feels the same way.

The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council executive director David Powell was recently quoted as saying "we're clearly opposed to that or medicinal marijuana."

So from the looks of it, cannabis is going to be a hot-button issue in Indiana come next year. And I have a sneaky suspicion that truth and the welfare of the people will be victorious in the end.

Props to State Rep. Jim Lucas for being a visionary and for fighting for what he knows is right!

Can't wait to see how long it takes before they legalize mmj over there.
