Just a few years ago, the world swam in an abundance of oil and gas. The prices were affordable, and energy security wasn't the biggest worry on the minds of India's policymakers. Energy giants like Russia and Saudi Arabia were seeking a slice of the growing market in India, which hoped to redraw its relationship with producers and expand the role of natural gas in its economy.
