Soe Hok Gie

Dipuncak gunung semeru, ditemukan tubuhnya sudah tidak bernyawa, soe hok gie tewas menghirup gas beracun diketinggian sunyi atap pulau jawa.
Dalam hidupnya yang singkat Gie dikenal sebagai mahasiswa yang idealis, pengamat sosial yang tajam, dan kecintaannya kepada indonesia, salah satu tulisannya "catatan seorang demonstran" menunjukan kegelisahan Gie terhadap kediktatoran terhadap era transisi, dari order lama ke orde baru, namanya dikenang sebagai patriotisme dan nasionalisme keturunan tionghoa.
Saya setuju dengan Gie, bahwa patriotisme dan nasionalisme tidak bisa tumbuh dengan slogan-slogan seperti "NKRI harga mati, dll", kecintaan terhadap sesuatu akan tumbuh jika kita mengenal sesuatu itu, bukan timbul karena slogan-slogan

I agree with Gie, that patriotism and nationalism can not grow with slogans such as "NKRI price die, etc", love of something will grow if we know something, not arise because of slogans
