During the Han dynasty, Chinese nobles were sometimes buried in jade suits made up of hundreds of small jade bricks and sometimes with gold threads.

It is a show of luxury about one's status. But it also shows that jade offers protection from physical decay.

And for centuries since the dynasty, there is a deep connection between Chinese culture and the green smooth stones.

Jade usually reflects good health and long life for the Chinese, "according to Kent Wong, managing director of Hong Kong's luxury jewelry store, Chow Tai Fook.

Jade jerseys are no longer used, but the demand for these stones increases in prosperous China. Credit Suisse said there are now 109 million middle class in China which if total holds financial assets and real estate of US $ 7.3 trillion. More than two million Chinese are millionaires.

With so much wealth it is not surprising that more Chinese today are buying up luxury items like jade. Over the past few years China has experienced two-bite economic growth, Wong said.

The demand for jade is almost entirely from the Chinese market. The best quality product, the price can exceed gold.

In fact, jade is so precious that criminals in other parts of the world are showing interest.
