See Trouble: House of assembly gives verdict on INEC
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have rejected the result of the governorship election held in the state last Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The assembly also alleged harassment by security agents and adjourned sitting till October 8, 2018.
The Leader, Akinyele Olatunji moved the motion for adjournment.
Speaking at the House plenary in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Olatunji said the process leading to the election and final results were unfortunate.
The lawmaker also frowned at the alleged harassment of the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, across the state and members of the state assembly by security men.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Samuel Omotoso, also claimed that the election did not meet all democratic credentials.
According to the lawmaker, the election was marred by outright brigandage, vote buying and falsification of results.
Also speaking, the Deputy Whip, Ekundayo Akinleye, pointed out that the outcome of the election had shown that Nigerians should not expect free and fair elections in 2019.
Kola Oluwawole, the Speaker of the Assembly, on his part, said that the election was a “show of shame with thugs and security men openly working for the opposition All Progressives Congress.”
He further alleged that figures were doubled to favour the declared winner. Oluwawole vowed that the stolen mandate would soon be retrieved.
