Herpes is a group of viruses that can cause infection. Herpes virus infection is generally characterized by dry skin and blisters, causing sores that are contagious and most often around the mouth or genitals. Usually the part of the skin that is infected with herpes will feel sore and itchy. If it is examined and found red sores, or has ballooned filled with water, it is confirmed that it is herpes. The cause of herpes is the herpes simplex virus types I and II. Both viruses are classified as DNA viruses. Usually, people who get herpes are those who have previously had chickenpox. After recovering from chickenpox, the varicella zoster virus becomes inactive but still persists in the nerves. The virus is easily transmitted from one person to another through skin contact, such as kissing or touching. While in type II, sexual contact is the main cause of virus transmission. Herpes virus infection that can be fatal, one of which is inflammation of the brain. Inflammation of the brain or encephalitis is a serious infection that can cause developmental delays in children or cognitive deficits in adults.
