It was a truly bizarre thread.

But I've come to expect that from her at this point.

Also I feel like poultry and eggs need to be separated from any inflation story.

We are in a pretty bad bird flu pandemic in the last couple years, so it is causing poultry and egg prices to be all sorts of volatile - on top of the overall inflation dynamics of the past few years.

This is especially true by region and by type of poultry meat and egg (organic/brand/etc). Poultry cullings have varied with the outbreaks. Some producers have managed better than others. Some regions better than others.

It'd be like complaining about the price of IDK graphics cards in recent years. Yeah that would make for a story about cryptocurrency mining and GPU shortages. But it'd be rather misleading for a story on general inflation in recent years.

It is why every time I post about CPI, people probably can think of items that have worse inflation. Yes of course, but that's not the point. CPI is a weighted average consumer basket. The whole point is it is a representative basket of prices consumers are facing every day. Some of those categories will have higher inflation, some lower. Some of those categories are a small part of a consumer's spending, some a large part. The CPI is trying to get a representative basket and weighting accordingly.
