So Taylor Swift is going to become the first performer with a billion dollar tour. Sure, she's obviously doing banger business, but the skeptic in me automatically asks, "what if we adjust for inflation?"
Well, some good person with too much time on their hands has already done the math and posted it to Wikipedia (and I'm going to trust them).
The results? Swift is indeed going to have the first billion dollar tour, the highest grossing of all time. Even more amazing, though, is how few shows it's going to take to set that record.
It took Elton John 330 shows across 5-6 years to set the current record. Ed Sheeran's in third place, but it took him 255 shows. Taylor Swift is closing in on Elton John while having done just 66 shows. Look at that average gross per show. Scroll down the list and the only other person to break eight figures per show is Beyonce. (And imagine how much they both missed out on from premium sales in the secondary market.)
Hats off to Swift, Time's Person of the Year.
