well sir smithlabs, I remember when they were trying to sell the concept of the .223 to the military. And their whole pitch was that it was designed to wound instead of kill because it takes a whole lot more people and resources to take care of a person if they are injured. That's what I remember anyway but that was in the 60's! lol.
They also claimed that the ammo was lighter (but you need half a dozen hits to do the same damage). They claimed that the velocity would make the projectile more dangerous, but it is too light to carry that mathematical energy increase.
The it takes people to care for the one hit, ONLY if that care is given! Most times they are left for US to care for....
The .223 is feces, and has been the cause of a lot of losses in our military! If we had still been using a 308; we would not have lost so many good MEN!
well they wanted something new and sleek and modern looking but I remember that it was a nightmare in Vietnam, hard to keep clean, jammed often, not reliable. Do they plan to keep it or are they finally changing it like they're doing with the pistol, I heard they were going back to the 1911!
They are supposed to be going back to the 1911, which is a great choice but I hear that they went to a Glock poly frame 9mm instead. STUPID choice!
The reliability was Caused by the military demanding tighter tolerances than the weapon was designed to run with. The designer objected to the tighter specifications, and they blamed him when those changes caused failures. When they went back to better tolerances, the firearm became reliable. If they go to the 6.8mm or the 6.5mm (two case lengths) they will have a reliable battle rifle!
Oh, just keep the same frame and action and go with a bigger caliber? Won't they need to increase the weight of the rifle a little bit so it doesn't kick as bad or is that a problem? Got women in there now remember.
sir smithlabs! does the United States companies have a battle rifle that you think they should adapt, one that could be used right now or do we have to wait years to develop one?
oh ok, I get it, it's a little kids gun and a girl's gun. thanks sir smithlabs!

It is a zero recoil weapon because the 223 is basically a souped up 22. It is a good training rifle though.

Multiple uppers can be changed with just pulling one pin. The 300 blackout, and the 6.5mm Grendel even use the same magazines.
Cheap change...I am thinking about several upper changes myself.

Yes, the .223 leaves the wounded combat effective. THAT is the base problem with the .223! Unacceptable!
Our Brave soldiers need a Combat Rifle that has serious knock down power, so they can safely do their jobs!

The existing M-16 could be directly changed into a 6.5 mm grendel by just changing the upper unit.
