in information •  7 years ago  (edited)

These flowers blooms at night and fall to floor at dawn, means they stay on tree only 4 to 5 hours. Basically the tree of Mahua grows in forest mostly. When i looked 20 years back the demands of Mahua flowers was on sky in village province of India but lots of tree has been cut. Mostly tribes villagers were dependent on these flowers and its seeds, they eat flowers after boiling it in a minimum temperature. Also they produce alcohol from these flowers and drinks daily. However it has a unique fragrance but can’t tell tell exact name.. When i was 7 to 8 years old and whenever goes to village in holiday always see that lots of tribes man and women are coming with lots of Mahua flowers in their big and small baskets.

At least 15 years later once again i saw a tribe woman and her son were collecting Mahua flowers under the tree, I stopped my vehicle beside the road and go near them and after permission collected some photos. Step by step i will upload all photos here :

Its look like Raisin isn’t it? Also it has sweet taste. It is said that its seeds are capable to produce oil and oils are used in cooking and lighting lamps and to make soap.

What is most important to know ?

These flowers are available from February last to mid May every ear.

Apart from food they sell some flowers to big merchants and earn money but merchants never purchase raw flowers anymore. Villagers or caretaker of tree and flowers do some hard work to sell it.

What they do with flowers to sell it :

They spread all flowers in sunlight fir 5 to 6 days to get it dried 100%. Every morning they bring out all flowers to sunlight and every evening again collect all and store in safe place.
