Hey folks, today I am going to try something different from the norm. I want to gauge if there are any I.T guys on Steemit and if there is a need for I.T tutorials or information sharing.
Apart for me sharing my hobbies on Steemit, My day job is Infrastructure Engineer and this entails managing the businesses Firewall, Network and Virtualisation platform.
The most exciting and rewarding skill is the ability to manage the firewall because it seperates the inside (People and Devices) from the outside world (potential bad guys).
We use 2 Fortinet 100 E firewalls that are setup in Active-Passive High Availability which means if one firewall has an hardware failure it will automatically failover to the passive firewall which becomes the Active firewall.
We have a virtualisation platform that lives on VmWare 6.5 with a Vcenter with embedded PSC (Version 6.7)
We also use shared Storage that is populated with SSD drives in a IBM DS6200 controller and added on IBM enclosures which are then connected to the hosts via fibre cables.
Lastly , we have our Layer 2 network built with HP switches which are branded with Aruba now. We also have Vlans so we have a layer 3 switch that handles our routing and this is where our vlans reside/created.
I can share more information and would love to reach out to other like minded people and grow the Information Technology tag on Steemit.
Thank You for Reading.
Have you ever had a snapshot disk consolidation that deleted the OS drive in VMware? Yesterday I spend the greater part of the day babysitting a SQL restore due to VM ware crapping out on removing a snapshot.

Never ever seen that happen in Vmware, To be quiet honest , vmware has been superb for us. We also use Veeam for backups and replication and it has been superb. Was your snapshot created by a back up application?
Also are you on discord? We can hook up there and chat.

I believe the Snapshot was created by VMware. The CIO was like what happened so I gave him the analogy that well we went to change the oil then suddenly the engine disappeared.
