The impending socioeconomic crisis that looms over Venezuela is increasingly taking its toll on all areas; and the printed media do not escape this because in just one week four printed media closed their printing presses.

Visión Apureña (Apure and Amazonas), Last Portuguese Hour, El Diario de Lara and El Caroreño (Lara) announced their closings after constant communications in which they expressed that the lack of inputs made publication more difficult, especially with the paper issue, that since 2014 is delivered by the Maneiro Corporation, dependent on the Executive Power.

With this, and Apure would become the second state of Venezuela that runs out of newspapers after Sucre the newspaper La Región del Pueblo stopped circulating on 1 February. In the case of Lara, the newspaper El Informador and La Prensa still survive, but only five days a week.

Both the National Union of Workers of the Press (SNTP), The Press Institute and Society Venezuela (IPYS) and the National Association of Journalists (CNP) have echoed these events with the aim of preventing the dissemination of information that the citizen needs to know.

EL IMPULSO, Dean of the National Press stopped circulating on February 10 for these same reasons. From this window for democracy and freedom, we reject this attempt to restrict freedom of expression.
