Venezuela ranks sixth with the most deaths by firearms

Although the carrying capacity of a firearm has been suspended in Venezuela since April 30, 2018, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Jama), places the Caribbean country among the six countries with the most deaths per Firearms.

This report indicates that more than 250 thousand people died because of firearms and the list is led by Brazil (43 thousand deceased), followed by the United States (37 thousand 200); India (26,500); Mexico (15,400); Colombia (13,300); Venezuela (12,800); Philippines (8 thousand 20); Guatemala (5 thousand 90); Russia (4 thousand 380) and Afghanistan (4 thousand 50).

The study evaluates firearm-related mortality between 1990 and 2016 in 195 countries, by age and sex. It should be noted that the different nongovernmental NGOs in Venezuela have repeatedly pointed out that the Nicolás Maduro regime is composed of armed groups, evidenced by the protests registered in 2017.

The Government assures that the crime rate is lowering

The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Néstor Reverol, said that the crime rate in the country was reduced by 27% so far this year, compared to the same period of time in 2017.

Reverol indicated that the homicide rate decreased 26%, while the cases of kidnappings were reduced by 54%. The Executive attributes part of this achievement to the newly created "Preventive Front", an instance attached to the Interior portfolio "that contributes to the decline of crime rates through training, sports and recreation days in the national territory."

"There is political violence, we have criminal violence, psychological violence, but there is also media violence."

On the other hand they assure that the crime migrates from the country does not go down

Venezuelan emigration (also known as the Bolivarian diaspora) refers to the emigration of Venezuelans from their native country during the presidencies of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro, due to the establishment of the Bolivarian revolution. Initially, Venezuelans from the upper middle class and upper class emigrated during the Chávez government, then Venezuelans from the middle and lower classes began to leave as conditions in the country worsened.

This is one of the most violent countries in the world. We move in a deleterious and criminogenic economy, which mercilessly tears apart goods and services, leaving others a truly devastated nation.

Making an analysis of what was said by the Minister and the implementation of the police repressive policy of the Venezuelan State, I can describe that 17 ministers in 19 years have passed through the ministry of the branch! 12 with Chávez! and 5 with Maduro! 29 citizen security plans or devices have been applied! All reactive but not preventive, and we went from having an index of 4,550 murders in 1998 to 26,616 for the year 2017, so, I conclude by saying that they have not obtained the formula to stop, control and administer the criminal stain.

Venezuela registered 89 violent deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants in 2017, which translates into 26,616 victims, a decrease of almost 3% compared to the figures of the previous year and keeps the oil country in second place in the list of countries most dangerous in the world, headed by "El Salvador".

The Minister lies! and reacts derived from what happens. There is no continuity in criminal policy, there is no long-term policy designed, that is maintained through the changes. When they change the Minister, we move from one program to another increasingly incoherent and disjointed reality.

In a country where the State reserves the control of arms and ammunition, homicides do not cease, even though this crime has been reduced compared to the year 2017. I agree for the first time that the crime of homicides has decreased in the first semester of 2018. But, not for public policies, nor for prevention.

In addition, there is migration of antisocial to other countries and migration from one type of crime to another. Society is lied to, not taking into account variables in the study that are totally new about the management of "La Mancha Criminal". Therefore, it is unfortunate to say that it is a product of police efforts.

Personal opinion

There are many variables to speak of this point that is as critical in Venezuela as the economic and humanitarian area that crosses the country, something if I agree that the minister lies when saying those numbers of the indices when the reality is a very different the one that Venezuelan lives on foot! From this I can attest that it is an uncertainty to leave the house because you do not know if you are going to be a victim of a criminal without knowing if you are going to get back home alive.

We are the majority of Venezuelans who live this scourge, when the repressive part is what prevails and not the preventive then that causes violence, because the criminal law is symbolic violence, then violence reacting with more violence does not lead to any solution.

The solution is in the part of the social approach and exclude criminal repression, violence with more violence does not work, values have been replaced in society, there is impunity, there is a dismantling of institutions, there is a dysfunction of the system of administration of justice criminal, there is a reductionism of the law, it has lost its validity.

The common citizen no longer respects the law, has stopped applying the spirit of the norm so that it does not work and is accepted in our social contract, from a psychosocial point of view it has been demonstrated through the investigations that all this affects in the increase in superfluous violence. Venezuela can get out of this problem by designing a Criminal Policy of the scientific cut where Criminologists, Sociologists, Psychologists, Criminal and Penitentiary Lawyers, restructuring and reorganizing the Criminal Judicial System, updating the COPP and Penal Code to the Venezuelan reality; respecting the application of human rights.

Then, the Venezuelan State must invest in social control, using a display of tactics and strategies to seek legitimacy and ensure consensus among the members of society and stop idealistic buffoons that are out of fashion and establish a once " Criminal policy".
