Do we have the courage to question our beliefs?

The truth: beyond the mask

We are a reflection of the structure of our belief system. We acquired information that forges our opinion and positions us politically. However, once we became entrenched in our beliefs, we closed ourselves to what led us there in the first place. What led us to inform ourselves for the first time is having concerns and curiosity. Once we satisfy this need, we become lazy. I'm not looking to point or judge, I'm nobody. I myself struggle against this phenomenon day after day. But the first step to struggle with this problem is to identify it, but when we dialogue or debate, we do nothing but make an endless monologue, with an argumentative impermeability that prevents us from growing. To be right (if such a thing exists) it is necessary to accept being wrong first. If you accept your mistake, you are only going to make one mistake. But the more solid our belief system is and the more we support it, the more difficult it is to combat it.

When two people come together to exchange one dollar, each will go away with one dollar. When two people come together to exchange an idea, each one will leave with two ideas.

Understanding what happens is a challenge to our ego.

When we inform ourselves, we seek to understand the reasons that put our society in this situation. Basically, we seek to understand reality. But the point is that reality is dynamic, the answer we arrive at today may change tomorrow. Or maybe it is us who will change tomorrow! New information changes our identity and therefore also changes our perspective. When we learn something new, there is no turning back. We are condemned to the pain that knowledge intrinsically has. Ignorance is a blessing; it is no joke, or at least to me; it does not cause me any fun.

After the immense difficulty of being informed, reasoning and understanding, then we have to deal with the ego growing inside us, pride and that sense of superiority that comes with knowledge are traps very difficult to avoid. You must have to battle against your ego, because there is no debate from arrogance, the only real debate is the one transmitted from humility. When we stop learning, we stop evolving. To evolve is optional, to remain in the same place is not. Although we are never going to remain static because we are in constant movement, sometimes we do not move towards evolution, but on the contrary, we become something dogmatic. Movement and change are inevitable, if we believe we know everything, we lose the helm of choosing where we want to go, we end up being slaves of our own dogmatism. Humility allows us to be sensitive to these changes. Accepting that every day we are going to mutate, opens us to have a fresh mind to accept new ideas or share ours. In the debate it is a sine qua non condition to understand what the other wants to tell us, not from the cold theory but from the humility to analyze and understand what the other says, without labels or dogmas. When we achieve this deep understanding of the other, we also acquire the ability for him to achieve a positive gain in the exchange of opinions.

Not to doubt our beliefs covers us with a rigidity that makes it impossible to effectively understand a shifting reality.
