Is Individuality Dying?

If we take a hard long look at everything around us in regards to our culture, we start to notice just how the same everything has gotten. When you look at movies, music, fashion and society, we seem to be living in a world now, that celebrates conformity. Even politically and I think that's where it started to become far more noticeable, especially in our day and age where information literally travels at the speed of light and we have never been more connected with each other than ever before in history. When the Trump train pulled into town, never before have I noticed such a collective outrage in my life, and it was mostly perpetuated by media prescribing what the masses need to think. How can 90% of media all have the exact same perception of someone all based almost entirely on opinion, reporting of the news became the reporting of all the same opinions. There was a prescribed thought we were all expected to hold on what ever they told us, welcome to the birth of the sheep mentality.

It didn't start with politics, it's started with the entertainment industry. Music has become ever more monotonous than ever and is entirely based on popularity and trends, never before has there been so much of exactly the same, everything is sounding like everything else, and nothing truly unique is being created. The same applies to fashion, when I was younger there was basically two seasons, Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, today there are 52 "micro-seasons" per year. How about films, well exactly the same, the only thing that works is reboots and established franchises because of the nostalgia that people associate with it.

"The secret is not to give up hope. It's very hard not to because if you're really doing something worthwhile I think you will be pushed to the brink of hopelessness before you come through the other side." - George Lucas

There is a big difference between what we had in the past and what we have now, when Star Wars made it big a long time ago, is was not because it was it was a tried and tested box office money maker. George Lucas created something brand new and he struggle to get A New Hope made initially, but it was an overnight success, and the reason people loved it was because it was unlike anything we had ever seen, it was original.

If you take a hard honest look at our society, we live in a world now where conformity is celebrated, a wold of safe spaces where free speech and free thought is being ostracized and outlawed. Political correctness and identity politics has infected entertainment so much so, that writers and creators dare not transgress what is acceptable opinion by the online outrage mobs, which stifles all creativity and experimentation. The result of this kind of cultural fascism is that everything needs to contain the prescribed ideology or it must be burnt, and the sad part is those who enforce this don't even realize what they have become.

"I believe that political correctness can be a form of linguistic fascism, and it sends shivers down the spine of my generation who went to war against fascism." - P. D. James

May I add, conform and get bail outs... and how to argument against socialize your loss and keep your profits if you conform or serve the dominant oligarchy... it's not what you do, it's what you think.

and don't forget she took the apple...

I agree, this control is getting crazy. Everyone just wants to fit it but for no apparent reason other than because they are told to. Economically it appears that all is well so people don't quite realize what this is all leading up to...
