With a little creative work the road can be totally hidden. The road is dirt, so remove the sign, place a few bushes, and add a gate made from chain link layed flat. This gate can have vines trained down the length, and still be pulled back out of the way. A blockade a half mile away up road, would enclose a bigger community. Depth in defense is better....

By the way, I like the idea of 'hiding the road'

Some options for hiding the road include 'sprinkeling leaves' (effectiveness low because the wind can clear the road). A possible better option is to get some type of net and spay paint the net
Then tie strips of burlap onto the net!

That sounds like a quote that I can learn from "Depth in defense is better...."
What does that saying mean?
Also when concealing a road, is there a 'whole' that is cut in the tree line?

It means that there are several pre-constructed defensive positions, with plans to drop back in good order. A defense of this type is very costly to penatrate, as each victory; sets up the next trap.
There are natural gaps in the Treeline called meadows....

I like the sound of that! Please provide an example of 'debth in defensive'. Is the only example 'the enemy' forcing me to retreat into an area that provides him limited cover, or a boby traped area?

A defense in depth is intended to protect you until you leave; then when they move forward, it offers them no cover. The intent is to bleed the attackers numbers to a non viable amount. Done right, few defenders can stop large groups of attackers. You simply use these prepared positions to trim 5 to 10 attackers at each location. The Man who taught me this, used his house as the last prepared position. He just works it from the outside, with a sniper rifle. He planned for a hundred attackers, with only himself to oppose them. He figured a couple of days to kill enough to get them to leave. His supplies are distributed, and collect abandoned gear as payment. He said he would likely come out ahead, and he intends to stack the bodies past the first defensive position in preparation for another incursion....
