12 volts is definitely a lot easier because the car voltage has a lot of goodies running on it. That does make it a good choice! I am just hard headed, LOL!
I plan on a lot deeper cycle, which is hard on lead acid. We will run AC, heating, refrigeration and lights from this battery. I found a nice pair of AC/ Heat pump units that draw a total of 1800 watts for two tons of AC (24,000 BTU)
I found a refrigerator that draws 65 watts at 24 volts too; so we are getting there, LOL!

Yes things like fridges, AC units and LED lighting are much more efficient than what I could get 11 years ago :-)

Tech marches on for sure! I helped build one of the first ground heat AC systems (longer ago that I like to admit, LOL) and we even published in a peer review Journal. We had a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of almost 8! That got a lot of attention back then....
This new unit is a SEER of 22, that makes the system I worked on a Joke today, but back then it brought in the Feds! :)
This new refrigerator is a thousand dollars, so it is still pretty cutting edge.
I am an Electrical Engineer, so all the lighting will be my own design, including the dimmers.
I may run a parallel 12 volt system just to run my ham radio.

The tech sure does improve and I hope you show us some of the progress as you go along :-)

I will, it should be fun. I plan on using an Earth Battery for thermal scavenging to increase the efficiency using ground temperature! I am fighting to insulate and seal the house right now, it is important to begin right....

Fantastic and yes the insulation is very important.

Reduces my need for increased power, because I do not need as much power to heat and cool.
I am still looking for a low power washing machine, and I will add a dryer, but I intend to use a clothesline.

Exactly saves so much energy input needed. I have seen inverter dryers basically an AC system built in to heat the clothes.

Yes, but that draws a lot more than a clothes line, LOL! I may go Propane, but it will still sit most of the time.
It may end up like my wood stove; I may have to build it myself....
