The Contest Theme
I am going to stay away from current events, or investigations of the Deep State...
No, this contest is solely based on the 67/68 TV series The Prisoner.
This is an open writing contest; In this I mean that as long as your blog addresses #informationwar and is told by reference to some aspect of the TV show, the entry is valid. The more your blog uses aspects of the show in your discussion of #informationwar, the better that I will like it.
There are a lot of different approaches to this ;>
Judging is solely by me, and will be subjective.
Some blurbs about the show
Fifty years ago, The Prisoner began serving time. McGoohan – its star, executive producer, and sometime writer-director, a hard-drinking, intransigent Irish-American actor with a sharp Olivier-like edge to his voice – became Number Six, a former secret agent who knew too much to be permitted his freedom. For 17 weeks, he struggled against the mysterious authorities of the Village, personified by Number Two – not an individual, but an office occupied by a shifting cast of guest stars. (Leo McKern, Mary Morris and Peter Wyngarde were memorable incumbents.) He resisted their mind-bending tricks and interrogation techniques, attempted to escape by land, sea and air, and strove to solve the defining mystery of the series
How did The Prisoner ever get made?
part of Markstein's inspiration came from his research into the Second World War, where he found that some people had been incarcerated in a resort-like prison called Inverlair Lodge
Wiki
McGoohan had to hide out after the finale, because so many people were so angry about it that they were after him!
How to enter
- Research the material...watching (or rewatching) the whole series if you can, or the first AND the last two episodes if you can. Amazon Prime currently carries the show (I watched it through twice last month).
- While every other episode can be mined for #informationwar material (easily!), you personally should get an impression of the finale. It doesn't need to be part of your post, but it is an eye-opener. Be prepared to read what others have explained about the end..really, I did not like the ending until I read about it from several others, and re-watched it.
- Write your blog and link the blog in the comments here.
- No resteem is necessary, no link to this post is necessary. These are appreciated!
- Contest ends October 23th, I'll share the winner on the 24th

very nice story! I like the parrallel with the show, and the plot fact that the villagers are programmed...like the NPC meme
and to save you some stress next time, as long as the submission comes in on the day of the deadline, it's good (which would have meant a midnight deadline today...but some folks strike on a deadline. I used to.)

Looking forward to reading your blog on this:
In the episode where The Village tries to gather information through mind manipulation, as Number Six is walking back to the lab in his dream, number two and the dream specialist look up the physical hallway in anticipation. That was a nice stick-it-to-them moment.
I have to go with the above scene. it's a two-fer!

Amazing!
I'm super pumped to watch The Prisoner!
Hope you extend the contest a bit while I do my research 🙂
Actually, that wouldn't be fair to the others.
Maybe another round in a month or so?!?
Ambition got the best of me...
Still really excited to watch this program though!

it's not really a requirement to watch the whole thing ;>
I think one or two would give you a good idea; like I said, most of the episodes have some #informationwar connection, and you could write a post that focused mainly on the IW side of the locus.
I just want folks to watch this for the benefit to themselves. Once I got done over being pissed at the end, and considered the message, it was pretty powerful stuff!

Excellent. A good overview of the show and some of the spoiler I wasn't going to release myself (it was important in my mind that I didn't do that)
Informationwar, IMO, is aimed at the liberty to make our OWN choices in life

I love the quote by McGoohan at the end- "Freedom is a myth."

It is so interesting to me because the struggle is so much between the individual and society, and each needs the other to prosper
so *what is freedom, or liberty?
Is there a balance? if so, is it "somewhere in the middle", or is that just a platitude?
These questions have been bugging me as i have been moving latley to a more tribal understanding of what is the bedrock of a successful society (The Mosby book kicked that off for me, Forging The Hero)
Have we moved too much to "if it feels good, do it"? But if we start limiting that, where are we going to STOP interfering with liberty?
All very hard questions, and this series to me opens up a stage for discussing them in terms of what truth seems to be vs what it actually is

Almost done the series. I had a good run for a day or two getting the time to watch but then life got in the way. I have a few favorites going for sure that will make it in. Ep 4, 5, 6 was a great run

McGoohan originally planned 7 episodes in total. There are some observations I'm going to hold off on until you have finished the series off and made your own impression.

I used to watch that when I was a kid, I had these weird memories of that bubble but could never remember the name of the show.
I'll give it a watch

I never did the chance to look into it all works. Is there an easy way to get a read on it? I use Steemworld to track my status but there's a lot more information there than I know what to do with unfortunately

you should be getting an upvote on your posts, at least one per day, from one of the sbi accounts...I'm hoping you can see that daily vote(s) as something worthy as a prize...since it's what I'm using for the contest lol
here are a couple of posts going over the basic concept

a bunch of friends always wanted to watch this this with them, but that balloon just seemed too silly to me.
Then last month I got bored, and watched the series...wow.
I kept thinking, every episode, I could write an IW post about THIS, or about THAT

You mean Rover??? The original Rover was a machine that was a hovercraft, went under water, climbed walls... When they tested it, it went underwater and never came up. McGoohan and the mechanic were having a "now what" moment when they saw a weather balloon over head and- voila!

I'm loving it, on ep 7 now, going to watch it all the way through for sure. As silly as the bubble is it really does stick with you, I had total nostalgic flashbacks.
The dialogue is so damn clever that I can't help but smile too. # 6 is the man!

I see what you mean now as well. I'm writing the movie script for this show in my head as I am watching it. Our culture needs this kind of media right now in a bad way.
I'm trying not to add a bunch of spoilers here though lol.

Duuuuude, I love this show and Patrick McGoohan! How fun!
So, does the genre or style of writing matter - as long as The Prisoner and the Information War is addressed? For example, can the blog post be fan-ficiton story? A review of the show? A non-fiction piece exporing the intersection of infowar & The Prisoner? etc.
Thanks!! This seems super cool.

While the writing can be in any form that you think is fun and/or important to discuss, I will state that the chances of winning are more likely if the post is A non-fiction piece exporing the intersection of infowar & The Prisoner. That was what I was hoping to see as i set up the contest.
OTOH, one could pick a single episode and extract an #informationwar lesson relating to that episode.

I really thought it would be goofy, because of the balloon, but I was hooked about 20 minutes in. The last few episodes start seeming a little hokey, but after you understand the point of the series, they actually make sense
