Just a short post today in which I'd like to share with you an interesting observation. It has to do with the two front-runners in the Democratic primaries, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, and what their supporters can tell us about this junction in time.

Linked below this post is a 5 minute video briefly discussing the latest polls from Iowa state, the first real election in this Democratic primary. This video is from MSNBC, which might surprise you because I don't usually give much credence to the corporate backed reporting we get from the mainstream media; in this case however it's a simple reporting on poll-numbers, it matches exactly what's reported in the online alternative and progressive media, and it gives a clear rundown on the specific numbers I want to discuss right now.
Bernie and Joe represent the extremes in the Democratic party; Bernie is the true progressive who proposes a significant change away from politics as usual and is a real threat to the status quo, and Joe is the "back to normal" candidate who proposes a return to the politics before Trump became the POTUS. It's true that for a lot of Democratic or "blue" voters it would be enough of a win if they just get Trump out of the White House, and this is especially true for older Democrats; that's why Joe Biden's support disproportionately comes from older voters, which is the exact opposite of Bernie's grass-root support. In the video it's stated, and I repeat that this is what every news-outlet reports, that Biden's support is highest with voters of 65 plus years old, and falls lower as the voters' age lowers. Sanders' support is highest with voters aged 18 - 35 years, and falls lower as the voters' age rises.
I've often mentioned, and it's plain to see that the word "socialism" and even "communism" no longer have the scary effect on generations born after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989; these generations were born after the many decades of anti-Soviet and anti-communist propaganda previous generations had to endure. I'm old enough to remember that period, as I'm more than a half century old now. But voters who are now 65 plus years old, from 1955 and earlier, grew up in the middle of all that; the Red Scare was spoon fed to them and they had to endure 35 plus years of vigorous anti-communism propaganda. This is, in my opinion, why the oldest candidate in the race has the youngest support-base; they don't get scared away from a candidate by simply labeling him or her a "socialist," their minds are relatively open to the idea of an alternative for capitalism. Furthermore, in their lifetimes they've know nothing but capitalism at its peak, or late capitalism which is the plutocracy we all suffer from, and these youngsters know it's a failing system; their huge student debt proves it for them. Anyway, that's it; I just found it remarkable to see how propaganda from more than a half century ago still influences today's political reality. Let me just close by saying to people from my generation and before that it's time to let go of the old and embrace the new. Trust your sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters; it's their future we're talking about here.

What's to be scared of? Just mass murder and widespread famine, no big deal, right? I mean socialism only kills rich people, the educated, the clergy, farmers, anyone with an opinion that differs from the party orthodoxy, shopkeepers, landlords, people with glasses, teachers, engineers, ethnic minorities, students and loyal communist party members so no big deal!

As the trite and overused saying goes: "History repeats itself."
I'd even submit that a lot of people are influenced by the fears of past events, but very few of them actually are capable of exercising sufficient critical thinking to truly understand what the lessons of the past really meant.
I came to the US (from Denmark) to go to college in in Austin, TX in 1981, and I quite clearly remember being called "a communist" for no other reason than the geography of my birthplace...

You ever heard the term "never forget"?
All we hear about is Nazi Nazi Nazi holocaust holocaust holocaust. On every media channel available.
But you are surprised that people are still put off by the system that slaughtered the most humans of any genocide... Communism slaughtered over 100 million innocents, right before that "Good War" which saved Communism.
You're Damn right we won't forget. Not only are we not going to forget, but the pendulum is now starting to swing the other way.
Weimerica next on the agenda.....
