Secure Your...Trash??

in infosec •  7 years ago

Sometimes keeping your information secure is dead simple. So simple in fact that we might miss the obviously easy things we need to do to keep our personal information safe. Information predators have many different tools at their disposal to try steal information and make money. When you think of Information Security, computers generally come to mind but actually, computers don’t have to be in the picture at all.

Every year, dumpster divers make victims of those who are unaware of this practice. Your trash can be a treasure trove of information, from old tax returns to credit card offers, these pieces of paper can be used to steal someone’s identity and create a major headache for the target.

In this video, I cover some basics to keep in mind when dealing with this non-technical security hole.

It is a good idea to shred your papers and have some sort of a trash disposal system. Make it difficult for those dumpster divers to get anything useful.
