Dangerous driving: He has a crisis at his trial

Longueuil, accused of causing a police chase that resulted in two wounded, plunged into a crisis in full trial on Wednesday, asking to leave the room and be remanded in custody.

"Get me out of here, it's disgusting what's going on!" Sebastien Theodore launched this Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse.

Shortly before, the judge had forbidden him to ask an irrelevant question to one of the victims.

"It is unacceptable, it is not correct to hide that, [the investigator] did things wrong," said the accused, before the 12 jurors responsible for judging.

Earlier in the morning, the 41-year-old accused was still calm. Sitting behind a bay window, he did not flinch when one of his victims recounted the extent of the injuries she suffered on November 17, 2018.

Police pursuit

According to the theory of the Crown, that day, Theodore was intercepted by the Sûreté du Québec. But instead of complying, the motorist would have fled.

A police chase ensued in the heart of Montreal. According to the testimony of one of the police officers, Théodore allegedly rolled against Papineau Street, then on an adjacent street.

The pursuit ended when a patroller attempted to "can" the suspect's vehicle. The latter, however, would have turned his steering wheel to get into the police car, throwing the vehicle to the sidewalk and seriously injuring Nancy Carrier, a woman who was shoveling his entrance.

Theodore was then arrested. The man, who is defending himself, is currently on trial on two charges of dangerous driving causing injuries to Ms. Carrier and a police officer.

injuries

During her testimony this morning, Ms. Carrier explained to the jury that she did not remember the incident that occurred almost a year ago. On the other hand, she was able to explain all the consequences of the tragedy, which made her still unable to resume her work as a nurse.

"I woke up in a hospital bed with head trauma, which makes it hard for me to find my words," she told the jury. I was on a respirator, my two lungs were punctured. "

The 43-year-old has also suffered many fractures in the pelvis, left arm, shins, right thigh and ankle, so she still needs crutches to get around.

"I am a person who always tries to see the positive ... The hardest thing at the moment is anger for banalities," she said. I'd like it to be like before, but it does not work. "

The trial, chaired by Judge James Brunton, continues this afternoon.
