What is a Brazilian Wax?

Brazilian Wax refers to the removal of pubic hair by using hot, strip free wax hair removal technique. If you have heard about “Bikini Wax”, it is basically the same thing as a Brazilian wax. The only difference is that Brazilian Wax removes more hair than a Bikini Wax. Brazilian Wax is an ingrown hair removal technique which targets the hair around the vagina lips from the front, all the way to the back. Additionally, you can choose to leave a landing strip of hair on top or a triangle.

Things to keep in mind, when going for a Brazilian Wax

  • You will be fully exposing your lower part: When going for a Brazilian Wax, you need to take off your pant and underwear. If you are going for a simple bikini wax, you could choose to wear disposable underwear. However, if you need to get more hair removed than from the sides only, you need to take off your underwear. You do not have to worry too much about exposing yourself because the professionals see numerous people’s pubic hair on a daily basis. It is a business for your esthetician.
  • Let your hair grow: One of the most common mistakes a lot of women make before getting waxed for the first time is that they shave prior to their waxing session. Shaving cuts hair only at the surface level and leads to ingrown hair. Even though waxing is an ingrown hair removal technique, shaving right before waxing is a bad idea. This is because strip free wax hair removal cannot pick up your hair when it is too short in length. The ideal length of hair for waxing is a quarter inch long. If you do not know how long that exactly is, leave it to the hands of your esthetician. Your esthetician will trim your hair to bring it to the ideal length, before waxing.
  • Avoid waxing when you are on your period: Senior estheticians suggest that it is a bad idea to wax when you are on your period. Since waxing is an ingrown hair removal technique, it pulls off hair all the way from its root. Additionally, your skin is extra sensitive when you are menstruating. As a result, whether you use strip wax or strip free wax hair removal, you will experience more pain than usual.
  • It will hurt more than waxing other areas of your body: Since waxing is an ingrown hair removal technique, it brings a certain amount of pain to the skin. When a person waxes for years, he/she might become desensitized to the pain. The amount of pain a person experiences when waxing depends on the thickness of the hair or the number of times he/she has waxed before. However, a bikini wax hurts more than waxing other areas of your body because it is a more sensitive area. Additionally, if the hair is thick and coarse, it will inflict more pain on the skin as the hair will be more stubborn to get rid of.
  • Take a bath on the day you go for waxing: Taking a warm bath or a shower on the day of your waxing appointment could potentially ease the whole process. This is because the heat will open up your pores making pulling out your hair less painful. Additionally, it is beneficial to exfoliate your body using a mild scrub when the days near your waxing session.

Brazilian Wax: The Process

To start off, your esthetician will ask you to lie down on a bed and get rid of your clothes below your waist. If you are more comfortable having some coverage, you could wear a skirt throughout the process. You could choose to wear disposable underwear, but it will be easier for your esthetician to work if you remove your underwear. Moreover, Brazilian wax consists of hot, strip free wax hair removal which suggests you to not wear anything.

Then, your esthetician will ask you to place one bent flat on the bed and the other leg bent up forming a right angle. This position will expose one side of your bikini line for your esthetician to work on. Another position that your esthetician could possibly ask you to do is the butterfly pose. The butterfly pose is when you put your feet together and keep your knees apart.

Afterward, wearing gloves, your esthetician will apply hot wax onto a small area of your hair using an applicator. Next, she will place a strip of cloth on top of the wax and press down a few times to make sure it is properly in contact with all the wax. Then, by holding the skin taut, your esthetician will quickly pull the strip away in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Your esthetician will repeat these steps until all of your unwanted hair is waxed off.

To finish off, your esthetician will pull off any missed hair using a pair of tweezers. Then, she will apply a soothing cream all over the waxed area in order to help you cope up with the redness and irritation.
