Our guest on the inkpot this week is someone who have Inspired a lot of people here on steemit.
He published his book " Alarm Clock Dawn" , after sharing it installmentally with the Steemit community right here on his blog.
I have also found him to be a man of great Humility, and he made out time for this interview from his busy schedule.
This interview is very educative and everyone has something to take out of it.
Ladies and GentleMen, i give you @ericvancewalton
Ogochukwu: What is your name and where do you come from?
Eric: My name is Eric Vance Walton. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio but have lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota for the past twenty-three years.
Ogochukwu: How did you learn about Steemit?
Eric: I was introduced to Steemit in June of 2016 by Leah (@Stellabelle)
Ogochukwu: What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
Eric: I’ve been lucky enough to visit both Hemingway’s birthplace in Oak Park, Illinois and his home in the Florida Keys.
My wife and I also live just two blocks from where F. Scott Fitzgerald was born. So many of the bars that he and Zelda frequented are just within blocks of where we live.
When I walk our beagle, Amstel, through the neighborhood I can almost feel the energy of the Jazz Age.
Ogochukwu: What do you think is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
Eric: Vanity publishing, for sure. Now that self-publishing is so easy and prevalent vanity publishers lure far less writer’s into their grips but still rip off far too many authors.
Writer’s, please, never pay a publisher to print your work. I got burned by a vanity publisher on my first children’s book, If I Had Thumbs Like People Do.
Ogochukwu: Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Eric: If the writing is flowing easily it’s absolutely energizing, if I’m in the grips of writer’s block it’s exhausting.
Ogochukwu: What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Eric: Trying to write what they think audiences want to read. This is the surest path to failure.
Ogochukwu: What part did the Steem/Steemit community play in the writing and Launching of Alarm Clock Dawn?
Eric: Publishing my novel in installments on Steemit launched my novel into the stratosphere, truly. So many good things have come about as a result of this that I don’t even know where to begin.
The sequel, Truth Is Stranger, will be released on Steemit in installments before it’s published in book form.
Ogochukwu: Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
Eric: A big ego definitely hurts writers. Confidence is a must for an author’s success...there’s a huge different between the two.
Ogochukwu: What is your writing Kryptonite?
Eric: Lack of time, mainly. I have too many ideas and not enough time to get them all down.
Ogochukwu: Have you ever gotten reader’s block?
Eric: No.
Thank you all for reading
