Our guest on the Inkpot This Week is @ericvancewalton, published Author of the book "Alarm Clock Dawn".
This is the second part of his interview, to read the first part, Click Here
Ogochukwu: Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Eric: No, but wouldn’t rule it out at some point in the future.
Ogochukwu: Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
Eric: I totally do my best to just be me and let my “tribe” find my work and connect with it.
Trying to anticipate what readers want and trying to please everyone insures that you’ll never make a living at writing.
Ogochukwu: Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Eric: Sure, there are tons of different genres that non-empathetic writers thrive in.
Ogochukwu: What other authors are you friends with on steemit/outside steemit, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Eric: I have a pretty close circle of creative people (not just authors) both inside and outside of Steemit that I admire and follow.
They absolutely amp up my creativity.
A few of them on Steemit are @fairytalelife, @the-alien, @natureofbeing, @ezzy, @sgtechservices, @exyle, @kyriacos, @opheliafu, @luckyfellow ...just to name a few.
Ogochukwu: If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Eric: Write what you’re passionate about and don’t give up. I wrote for over twenty-years before my writing really took off. I often think of how much regret I would have had if I had quit.
Ogochukwu: How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Eric: I published several books before my novel but Alarm Clock Dawn was the book that changed everything for me.
By the time I typed, “The End.” I absolutely fell in love with writing fiction.
Ogochukwu: What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?
Eric: Hiring a professional editor. Back in 2013 I was dirt poor, my wife and I were still recovering from the Housing Crisis of 2008.
I took out a loan from my credit union to pay for a professional editor for ACD and it was the best thing I ever did.
Ogochukwu: What does Literary success look like to you?
Eric: It’s not a lot of money in the bank as much as it is the freedom to live life on my own terms and not have to wake up with an alarm clock in the morning.
Thanks to Steemit I’m so close to this goal I can taste it.
Ogochukwu: What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
Eric: I’m drawing a total blank on this one. I really don’t read much fiction. I tend to gravitate towards autobiographies mostly.
My favorite book of all time is Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananada.
I try to reread this once a year.
Ogochukwu: How do you balance making demands on the reader with taking care of the reader?
Eric: I don’t so much focus on taking care of the reader as much as I just focus on producing the best writing I can. If an author can do this, everything works out in the end.
Thanks for Reading
