My 23rd drawing for Inktober

The Inktober prompt suggestion for the 23rd is Muddy. I turned to the idea of muddy footprints for this drawing, I usually have a pair of muddy wellington boots stashed at the back of my car's boot, so it was the first thing I thought of.

Creating the drawing

I started off the process by making wet footprints with a wellington boot on dry paving slabs, so that I could study the shape of the wet prints.

Preparing the paper

I created a print plate out of cardboard, using a scalpel to draw into the card the shapes of paving stones, I then glued this to a thicker board. Once dry I covered the board in inks and pressed the paper over the top. This created a series of prints with a subtle background pattern.

Next, I sketched out the image on the prepared background in pencil. Then I used black drawing inks to create my drawing, applying it with my dip pen and a brush.
