Decades oil it was commercially transported on huge pipelines. Because it is cheaper, safer and more convenient, than to carry "black gold" railway tanks. However the situation can exchange if the technology of transformation of liquid oil into firm granules from the Canadian engineers acquires the right for life.
The transformation technique is kept in secret so far, it is known only that high temperatures and pressure are for this purpose used. The final product is very similar to candies with a stuffing – an external layer and a liquid core, firm, similar to asphalt. Such granules pellets can be received both from heavy oil, and from bitumen, rather quickly and cheap.

I still support moving AWAY from Oil, but damn, that is a fine idea in the interim! The fewer pipelines leaking all over, the better.

genius, how stable are the granules? can you control the size? there are so many applications and safety benefits to this it is crazy, do you know the name of the company that is working on this and are they publicly traded?
