We take so much for granted.

In 1830, one hour of light would cost you about three hours of labor. Today, it costs you less than 0.16 seconds.

Think about what kind of productivity and benefit the light bulb gives you. Without it, you'd have to either inefficiently burn through fuel or settle for a candle that would take more time and resources and barely light up a room. Now, you can light up an entire room or even point light at your specific direction. Shoot, most of us have a flashlight on our phone, so we can even go outside at any time and see clearly. I can go on Amazon and have a new source of light with extra benefits delivered to my door tomorrow.

Think of the billions of people who had nothing even like this.

And because of the prosperity we experience due to innovism and the free market, this little invention that we don't even think about costs us close to nothing. Something that pharaohs and kings never could have.

We really do not recognize just how blessed we are to live in a time where people are allowed to pursue their own interests to the benefit of others. We hear so much bleak news that often paints a picture that we are somehow worse off than previous generations, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
