REAL LIBERTY

There is, in the human spirit, a driving force towards liberty and most of the time, this has been directed towards determination to self-rule, release from slavery, freedom of speech, etc. The joy of such liberty when secured is soon short-lived because of yet another liberty that man still needs - the real liberty from the devil.

Since the fall, man had become a slave to sin and servant to the devil. Until he is set at liberty from the tyranny of the devil, every other liberty can not be enjoyed in its true sense. Paul was a scholar, a Jew and an adherent of Judaism. Added to this, he was a free Roman citizen but he was a captive to sin. His confession before his experience of salvation was "But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. "

Real liberty comes from God. This is what God offers us freely through Christ as we acknowledged our sinfulness, confess our misdeeds and repent of all evils we have done.

When Christ comes into our lives, He sets us free from the bondage of sin. Just like a freed prisoner leaves behind the prison reminders of the former life - handcuffs,chains, prison clothes etc, so also we must bury all the traits of the former life - adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, malice, filthy communications etc (Galatians 5:19-21 and Colossians 3:5-9).

From the moment we do this and invite Christ into our lives, we shall be free indeed.
