VANITY OF WORLDLY PURSUIT

TEXT 2:1-11

1. I decided to enjoy myself and find out what happiness is. But I found that this is useless too.

1. I discovered that laughter is foolish, that pleasure does you no good.
2. I decided to cheer myself up with wine and have a good time. I thought that this might be the best way people can spend their short lives on earth.
3. I accomplished great things, I built myself houses and planted vineyards.
4. I planted gardens and orchards, with all kinds of fruit trees in them.
5. I dug ponds to irrigate them
6. I bought many slaves born in my household. I owned more livestock than anyone else who had ever lived in Jerusalem.
7. I also piled up silver and gild from the Royal treasures of the lands I ruled. Men and women sang to entertain me, and I had all the women a man could want.
8. Yes, I was great, greater than anyone els who had ever lived in Jerusalem, and my wisdom never failed me.
9. Anything I wanted,I got. I did not deny myself any pleasure. I was proud of everything I had worked for,and all this was my reward.
10. Then I thought about all that I had done and how hard I had worked doing it, and I realized that it didn't mean a thing. It was like chasing the wind - of no use at all

Nothing on earth can satisfy the longing of man buvGod created the heart of man in such a way that he can not find life's fulfilment outside Him. As the shell, brought home from the seashore and placed on the shelf would sigh for the ocean from where it was brought, so is the heart of man.

The inspired writer emphatically warns that loving the world and all the things of the world is diametrically opposed to loving God. What then is "the world"? By " the world" we mean its fashions, systems and customs. Chrisworld ar are commanded not to conform to the world (John 15:19) to be the light thereof and to show the right lifestyle that God expects of man on earth. They are to be crucified to the world and all its allurements and live soberly and unspotted throughout their short period of stay on earth.

King Solomon, who was called Jedidiah or the beloved of Jehovah (2samuel 12:24,25), drifted away from God as a result of hisbquest for earthly pleasures. He tried knowledge in merriments and amusements which today could be likened to all types of indoor and outdoor games, watching funny and unedifying programs on the television screen or the internet and indulgence in luxurious living, but he ended up saying "all is vanity" .

If a man like Solomon, with the great wisdom of God, could not derive satisfaction from the vast things of this world are both transient and deceitful.

Conclusion:
Froends! Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love God.
Everything that belongs to the world - what the sin self desire and everything in this world that people are so proud of did not come from God.
All these things will pass away but those who do the will of God live forever.
